The Civic Hybrid lets you make the most of your thoughtful side, whether it’s thinking about fuel consumption or that big beautiful thing called nature. With all the interior amenities of its Sedan cousin, the Civic Hybrid also sports an efficient 1.5-litre, i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine with Integrated Motor Assist IMA® and a lighter Li-ion (lithium-ion) battery that packs more power in a smaller package. It also has combined fuel economy of 4.3 litres per 100 km and an exceptionally clean Tier 2 Bin 3 emission rating. No matter what colour you choose, it’ll have more than a hint of green.

ACE™ body structure
The highly innovative Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) body structure disperses frontal impact energy, increasing occupant protection. Additionally, the ACE frame design allows for collision compatibility between vehicles of different weights and sizes.

PERFORMANCE

The Hybrid’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC® engine is a working marvel of efficiency. And it’s not the only thing under the hood, with the permanent magnet electric motor sharing some of the workload. The new Li-ion (lithium-ion) battery holds a longer charge so you can get more use out of the car’s electric motor. You get more distance from less fuel, so you can go green and just go.
Integrated Motor Assist IMA®. It even sounds brainy.
At the heart of the Civic Hybrid is the sophisticated Integrated Motor Assist IMA® System. It controls the balance between the 1.5-litre, 8-valve i-VTEC® 4-cylinder gasoline engine and the electric motor. Although the engine alone provides sufficient driving performance, when additional power is required, a permanent-magnetic electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission provides power assist. The battery is charged using power from the engine, so it doesn’t need to be plugged in, but is always ready to supplement power when needed. Under certain conditions, the electric motor can propel the car from a stop to speeds up to 70 km/h. Together, the motor and engine produce 110 hp @ 5500 rpm.
CVT. Shift into the next generation.
The Hybrid will shift gears for you thanks to the advanced continuously variable transmission (CVT). It constantly adjusts to provide the most efficient drive ratio possible depending on torque load. Honda CVTs provide better fuel efficiency and acceleration when compared to conventional transmission.
ENVIRONMENT
Play games with the environment.
With i-MID, you’ve got all your information about the Civic Hybrid’s fuel economy right in front of you. Monitor the balance of the car’s power between gas and electric with the energy flow indicator. You can also check the Eco Guide to find out your Eco Score, which is based on how efficiently you drive. Just try to beat your high score.
ECON mode. The stingiest of them all.
Press the ECON button and your Civic will automatically adjust the engine and other power-draining systems to go into super-efficient mode. It’s a quick and easy way to maximize your fuel consumption and make being frugal fun.
Eco AssistTM. Civic’s little helper.
With the Eco Assist™ feature, driving efficiently becomes a lot like playing a game. The blue and green bars on either side of the speedometer let you keep your eye on how many kilometres you can get out of every litre of gas. Keep it on green and you’ll go farther.
Running efficiently runs in the family.
The Civic Hybrid is a direct descendant of the 1975 Civic CVCC, the first vehicle to pass the emissions requirement of the 1970 Clean Air Act without using a catalytic converter. Our technology has evolved since then, now delivering an impressive 4.2 litres per 100 km (highway) fuel economy on the 2012 Hybrid.
